MANVILLE – Somerset County's premier dance instruction school has expanded and relocated.
Main Street Dance & Music of Manville – formerly known as Main Street Dance – opened its doors in 2005 and has moved to the ground floor into a larger venue that better accommodates Somerset County families and the school's expanding music programs. The new state of the art facility has two larger classrooms for dance along with a separate room for musical instruction, which is now offered to give County families the full performance experience.
An enlarged family waiting room and spacious classroom viewing window allow parents to observe their child's progress throughout the year. "The recently added observation window was so appreciated by our families in our previous space that we included it in our new space and doubled its size and accessibility. All private music lessons rooms and both dance classrooms are equipped with windows visible from the waiting room", founder and instructor Julie Barbieri said. Main Street Dance & Music is one-stop-shopping for parents seeking to spend more time with children in an environment that promotes affordable education through music and dance.
"Saving 45 minutes or an hour of commuting every week between activities will really help increase family time," Barbieri said. Along with dance classes for students starting at 18 months old to adult, music classes are also available for students starting at six months old Wednesday mornings. Group piano classes start at ages 3 and up as well as private guitar, voice, drums and piano lessons for ages 5 and up.
"The baby music class fee is only five dollars per class to allow parents of 6 month olds to 4 year olds to get out and meet other parents with children of similar age. It has been fun to watch the students hit developmental milestones week after week and get to know their parents in this relaxed, low pressure music class", Julie continued, "My son was the inspiration for starting the class because he loves music and interacting with other kids."
Additional classes include Hip Hop, Mommy & Me Ballet, Tap, Ballet & Pointe for children through teens.
Thanks to additional classrooms and flexible scheduling, parents can have multiple children in separate classes at the same time. For busy working parents, week night classes for ages 2 to 5 are available in addition to the conventionalSaturday morning classes.
"Our mission is to provide students of all ages with the skills they need to enjoy music and dance for their lifetime," Barbieri added.
Students of all levels perform at nursing homes, senior citizen centers, tree-lighting ceremonies, parades, Somerset Patriots baseball games and other events across the County.
"New students don't have to wait years to perfect their skills before having the opportunity to perform in front of an audience," Barbieri said. "We give students the ability to perform outside of the classroom early on, which is just as important as what they learn inside our school." "There's no pressure or commitment," Barbieri said, "except to have fun."
Please call Main Street Dance and Music today to get information on their new classes that are added every season, year round, to accommodate newcomers. Private music instruction can begin any week with flexible scheduling for families with multiple commitments. "There are shortcuts to happiness," Barbieri said. "Music and dancing are two of them."
